Another Software Development Manager Blog

I happened across Jurgen Appelo’s blog, Managing Software Development recently. If you have room on your RSS list you might want to check it out.

  • Ed, thanks for the pointer!

  • No problem, it’s nice to see another software manager blogging.

  • Hi guys. I managed to find both of your excellent sites while searching for other software development managers who are also blogging about the complex task of managing independent creative thinkers, recruiting elusive technical talent, separating fiction from reality about SDLC methodologies like Agile, repeatedly explaining to upper management that testing/documentation are not luxuries, and struggling with the iron triangle of project management.

I’ve only had a chance so far to read a few articles on each of your sites, but the quality is excellent and very informative. It looks like we have a lot of similar influences (Joel, First Break all the Rules, etc.) I’m looking forward to catching up on the voluminous collection of useful information you have compiled and getting a chance to compare notes with peer managers. I have to admit that I find both of your blogs somewhat formidable given that I am still in the embryonic stage with my blog (about 3 weeks young), but hopefully I can also find a niche to add value to the conversation in my own way.

BTW: I was wondering if you guys, or any other SD managers who frequent this site, have any recommendations regarding professional organizations or “user groups” geared towards managing development teams and/or software project management. As I’m sure you know, management can sometimes be a lonely place to work, and I’m always looking to network with individuals who share the joy and burden of facilitating the creation of great software.
